artist's statement
Photography is like magic to me.
I look through the view finder and see
a scene that must be shared with others. When I view the latest digital
image or the developed film, I am always amazed at the details and nuances
that appear. I had not seen them when focusing, but there they are, inviting a closer look.
I got into photography to enlarge my view of the world. My profession as a technical writer required me to work with thousands of words daily, constantly analyzing software and trying to explain it in non-technical terms. I needed a creative outlet to gain balance in my life. Photography provides that balance and has opened my eyes to see and honor the beauty in the simplest of things. I turn the corner and a simple arrangement of pots on stairs makes me catch my breath. I think, “Oh, I hope I can get this—it’s got to be shared.”
You might say photography has created a passion for freeze-framing the beauty of simplicity so that others might also enjoy a respite from a fast-paced, complicated world.
